Management Company Overview

Upon its debut in December 2007, the new Casino Dominicus will be operated by one of the most experienced casino management teams in any market.  SSG Dominicus, LLC, a United States limited liability company, and its wholly-owned Dominican subsidiary Surcadia Empresarial, S.A., consists of seasoned professional gaming industry executives.  The team is skilled at both the day-to-day operations of a successful casino as well as the promotion, marketing, and financial controls of a new venture. 

Among the executives listed below there are several members with extensive experience in the Dominican Republic and Caribbean gaming markets.  This experience will prove beneficial in executing the company’s plan to open the premier gaming establishment in the country.  

The Casino Dominicus will provide an exciting, entertaining gaming venue targeted at both the tourist market (primarily with its hotel partners, SunTrust), as well as locals from the neighboring cities of La Romana and Higuey.  The company projects hiring and training approximately 150 employees to launch Casino Dominicus.

The management team has in the past directly opened and operated casinos in a variety of jurisdictions including Mississippi, Louisiana, and Indiana in the United States, Argentina, Venezuela, the Bahamas, and many other jurisdictions.

An affiliate company in the United States, Silver Slipper Gaming LLC, has just recently opened a large, new casino in Lakeshore, Mississippi approximately 45 miles east of the city of New Orleans, Louisiana.  This world-class casino has over 1,000 slot machines, 35 table games including a poker room, and is the engine for economic redevelopment in the area.  The Silver Slipper offers three different dining experiences including a full buffet, a fine dining restaurant and a 24-hour coffee shop serving full meals.  Full details on the casino can be viewed at, www.silverslipper-ms.com or www.casinodominicus.com.

 

Paul Alanis
Chairman

Paul Alanis has been actively involved in the gaming industry for over twelve years and been active in major commercial real estate development for more than twenty years. 

He is Chairman and CEO of Silver Slipper Gaming LLC a gaming enterprise with interests in several jurisdictions including the new Silver Slipper casino in Mississippi.

Past gaming experience includes having been president of Horseshoe Gaming, one of the pioneer companies in the gaming industry worldwide.  He oversaw all aspects of the company’s financial and development activities from inception through its success as the owner and operator of the most profitable casinos in the states of Louisiana and Mississippi.

As CEO of Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc., a NYSE publicly traded company, Mr. Alanis was principally involved in the transformation of the company from owning and operating horse-racing facilities to a major competitor and operator in the casino industry, outside of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. 

Prior to his involvement in the gaming industry, Alanis was president of KOAR, Inc., which company was a major developer of Embassy Suites hotels throughout the United States, as well as a variety of other commercial real estate projects.  KOAR, Inc. and Mr. Alanis also acted as advisor to numerous overseas investors that acquired over $1 Billion of commercial properties from 1978 through 1984.

Alanis received his He received his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School in 1973 and his B.A. degree from Georgetown University in 1970 graduating Cum Laude and was elected to the honorary society of Phi Beta Kappa.  

 

Loren Ostrow
Advisor and Partner

Loren Ostrow is president of Silver Slipper Gaming LLC and responsible for the financial controls and strategic development of the company’s growth.  Mr. Ostrow has been working in the gaming industry since 1993 and in major commercial real estate development for almost ten years prior. 

Past gaming experience includes the position of senior vice president and general counsel of Horseshoe Gaming, responsible for the legal, regulatory compliance, and partner relations matters of the company and its casinos in Louisiana and Mississippi.

As senior vice president and general counsel of Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc., Mr. Ostrow was again principally involved in overseeing all of the legal, regulatory compliance and new development activities of the company.  Prior to his involvement in the gaming industry, Mr. Ostrow was the senior vice president of KOAR, Inc., which company was a major developer of Embassy Suites hotels throughout the United States as well as a variety of other commercial real estate projects.

At the beginning of his career, Mr. Ostrow was associated with the Los Angeles law firm of Nossaman, Guthner, Elliott & Knox, specializing in real estate and tax law.  He was subsequently named partner and head of the real estate department at the Los Angeles law firm of Riordan, Caps, Carbone & McKinzie.  Mr. Ostrow represented numerous real estate clients, including the nation’s then largest developer and owner of mobile home park properties. 

Mr. Ostrow received his received his J.D. degree from Stanford Law School in 1977 and his B.A. degree from the University of Rochester in 1973 graduating Magna Cum Laude and elected to the honorary society of Phi Beta Kappa.  He received his MBA in financing and accounting from the University of Rochester in 1974. 

 

Charles Harrison
CEO

Mr. Harrison has held senior management positions in the gaming industry worldwide for over fifteen years.  This has included the operation and equipment side of the industry as well as the raising of funds in the capital markets for project development.

As North American general manager for CIRSA, a Spain-based gaming operator and supplier of equipment, Mr. Harrison built a direct sales and distribution network for equipment in thirteen jurisdictions and lead all aspects of the licensing of the company in North America including New Jersey and Mississippi.

Much of his experience has been in Europe and Latin America including his role with CIRSA as project leader in the acquisition and start up of the Casino Buenos Aires in Argentina with over 900 slots and 60 table games, which continues to be one of the most profitable casinos in all of Latin America.  

Mr. Harrison also has significant international experience in the venture capital industry having served as director of ENISA, a Spanish venture capital corporation with investments in over 40 North American companies investing in Europe.  Additional senior management experience includes serving as Latin American general manager for Del Mar Medical Systems, and senior counter trade analyst with McDonnell Douglas Corporation in the sale of aircraft to Spain and Latin America.

Mr. Harrison received his B.A. degree in Economics and International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and earned his MBA at Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management.

 

Richard Delaney
COO

Mr. Delaney has over twenty years experience in the hospitality industry including the current position of advisor for all non-gaming operations to the Silver Slipper Gaming LLC and its new casino in Mississippi. 

As vice president for Pinnacle Entertainment Inc., Mr. Delaney was responsible for overseeing all non-gaming operations for Pinnacle’s five casino resorts in Nevada, Louisiana, Mississippi and Indiana.  He established consolidated monthly reporting of company-wide key operating statistics.  He also played a pivotal role as general manager in the company’s opening of Pinnacle’s $220 million casino resort in Indiana and fully refurbished three of the company’s hotel properties.

Mr. Delaney also has extensive experience in international hospitality markets including having held the position of director of hospitality services for SunTerra Resorts and its holdings in the Caribbean, Mexico and the United States. 

Additional senior management experience includes ten years with Sheraton including three years in Mexico as general manager of the Sheraton Huatulco Resort.  Mr. Delaney had full responsibility for 347-room four-star oceanfront resort two hundred miles south of Acapulco, on the Mexican Rivera with annual gross sales of $14 million.  The property includes 3 restaurants and 3 lounges with a staff of 280 employees, and achieved a fifty percent gross operating profit.
 
He also initiated and managed discussions with Continental Airlines that culminated in the first scheduled air service from the United States to Huatulco in the summer of 1996.

 

Jerry Najman
General Manager, Casino Dominicus

Mr. Najman has thirty years experience in the direct, hands on, operation of gaming establishments on a worldwide basis.   Particularly relevant past experience includes having played an integral role in the grand opening and/or complete renovation of twelve major casino projects including:

  Having started out his gaming career in Las Vegas at the highly respected Harrah's and Bally's casinos, Mr. Najman has risen to hold the General Manager position at several prestigious casino resorts.   As General Manager of the Hilton Gran Casino Margarita at Margarita Island, Venezuela, he was able to increase profitability by fifteen percent by installing strict internal controls while simultaneously attracting an increase in both tourist and local players.   Mr. Najman was Vice President of Casino Operations for the Casino Bahamia, Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, overseeing a resort with more than 600 slot machines, 40 tables, and an extensive marketing junket program to bring players to the casino.

  Mr. Najman is recognized as a gaming expert and is quoted extensively in the international gaming industry trade journals.

He earned his A.A.S. degree in Casino, Hotel Restaurant Management at the Clark Community College in Las Vegas, Nevada and successfully completed coursework in the same areas at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

 

Steve Morris “MO”
Director of Operations
Casino Dominicus

Steve Morris has more than twenty years experience working at all levels of the casino industry. He started as a croupier in his home town of London, England and later traveled all over the world during the five years he worked for the casinos of Celebrity Cruise Lines.

He first came to the Dominican Republic to assist in the opening of the casino at the Intercontinental Hotel V Centenario. The next stop was Venezuela where he joined the Cirsa group, rising to become Assistant Gaming Manager of the Hilton Hotel, Margarita Island.

His next professional challenge took him to Argentina where he took charge of the training school of more then 700 employees at the now famous riverboat casino, “La Estrella de la Fortuna”, anchored in the port of Buenos Aires. He was the first ever shift manager of what is today one of the most profitable casinos in all of Latin America.

Steve had returned to the Dominican Republic and was working as Gaming Manager at Cirsa’s “Hispaniola” in the capital Santo Domingo, when he was invited by Jerry Najman to come on board the Casino Dominicus project where today he his Director of Operations.
